What Are The Top Qualities of Leadership?
May 9th, 2008 by Joandra Evaline
There are various qualities of leadership. Leaders, however, are mostly known for their vision and implementation of that vision.
They know how to drive others to help them reach goals. They understand how to help others change behaviors so that strategies can be made.
Some of the most important leadership qualities include:
* Listening: Good leaders will listen to other points of view and opinions, and they do it in a positive way. They will take the time to figure out how to base their strategies and goals on their followers’ needs.
* They are good communicators: A leader knows how to speak clearly. They know when to be motivational and when to speak calmly. People find them very easy to follow because they give directions that are easy to understand.
* Leaders are good at explaining problems. They help their team members see and face the obstacles that are in the way of achieving their goals. Better still, a good leader knows how to help and encourage the team to find solutions.
* The ability to delegate. This is one of the most important qualities of leadership, but one that is frequently overlooked. Leaders know the strengths and skills of their team, and they capitalize on these strengths by giving each team member tasks that contribute to the goals.
* Good team leaders also know how to appropriately show appreciation toward team members who do a great job. They know when to reward team members.
* Leaders show respect. Good leaders make it a point to try and treat others the way they would like to be treated themselves. When they follow the Golden Rule, they aren’t just commanding respect: They show that they deserve respect.
* Good leaders set goals. They set clear objectives that are attainable and easy to understand.
* Leaders aren’t afraid to include innovation and creativity when setting and achieving goals.
* Good leaders also try to keep everyone involved in the strategies that they have implemented.
* One of the most important qualities of leadership also includes encouraging integrity, values, and ethics, in the workplace.
John Quincy Adams defined a leader as someone who inspired others to dream, learn, do, and become more. If you move people to do these things, you are probably on your way to becoming a great leader.
